Join SlowLane founder’s Iestyn and Phoebe and travel with us to the spiritual island of Sri Lanka.

An intimate retreat held over 7 days and 6 nights we will stay at Kurulu Bay in Ahangama which is a private boutique sanctuary overlooking Sri Lanka’s most scenic natural lake, Koggala Lake. Surrounded by lush greenery, privacy and tranquility you will have the dreamiest of days. This retreat has been designed for anyone who wants to embrace a slowing down, an unwinding and unplugging from the demands of regular life. Imagine starting your day immersed in nature, practicing yoga overlooking the most beautiful natural lake, relaxing and reading by the pool and closing the day feasting on gourmet Sri Lankan food with new friends. We don’t think it gets much better.

Your Setting: Kurula Bay is a boutique private sanctuary built and designed to ensure a sense of intimacy immersed in nature. Located in Ahangama, close to some of the best beaches and surf spots on the south coast and overlooks Sri Lanka’s largest natural lake, Koggala Lake. Every element has been carefully considered to offer space, privacy and tranquility.

We are Phoebe and Iestyn – yoga teachers and studio owners of SlowLane Yoga located in Moonee Ponds, Melbourne Australia. 
 
We see life as an adventure with many chapters – teaching yoga and sharing our passion with the studio community is our biggest joy.

What is Included ?

  • 6 nights luxury accommodation at the stunning Kurulu Bay Boutique Hotel, Sri Lanka
  • Twice daily yoga and meditation classes including complimentary yoga props
  • Vinyasa, yin, restorative, meditation and pranayama (breath work) practices

Additional Activities

Additional activities (available at additional cost) include: 

  • Surfing lessons with a guide USD 75 per person including transfer and board hire
  • Galle Fort (approx 30 minutes drive away)
  • Yatagala Temple visit: USD20 per person including transport

Getting There

Kurulu bay, Ahangama is roughly a 2 hour drive from Bandaranaike international airport, Colombo.
 

Airport transfers can be arranged directly through Kurula Bay and will cost approx $150 USD per vehicle, van or car.

 

Travel by bus and trains are also an option.

 

Colombo airport serves as the gateway to travel to our destination. If you are travelling from Melbourne, Australia you can fly directly to Colombo airport from Melbourne Tullamarine airport, approx 10 hour flight time with Sri Lanka Airlines. Alternatively you can fly indirectly via Malaysian, Singapore, Thai or and Emirates airlines.

The Schedule

Arriving Thursday afternoon, we will begin the retreat with a special opening ceremony, gentle movement followed by a delicious gourmet group meal getting to know one another. The rest of our days will be spent immersed in our yoga practice, rejuvenating in nature and slowing down whilst appreciating the sensation of the sun on our skins and dreamy sunsets. An example of a typical day is below: 
  • 6:30am – 7:30am: Enjoy a sleep in or watch the morning light over the lake. Start your day with a coffee or a lemon and ginger tea amongst the sounds of nature
  • 7:30am – 9:30am: Morning vinyasa yoga and meditation
  • 9:30am-11:00 am: Wholesome gourmet group breakfast/ brunch 
  • 11:00am- 5:00pm: Pre planned activity or free time
  • 5:00 pm- 6:15pm : Evening yin and restorative yoga 
  • 6:15pm – Get ready for dinner, enjoy a pre drink of a yummy coconut or a glass of wine
  • 18:45 Group three course dinner 
    You will drift to sleep to the sounds of nature after a day full of yoga and connection

The Food

Feast on gourmet Sri lankan food that is prepared daily by the kitchen at Kurulu Bay
 
They embrace a sea to table philosophy, sourcing fresh seafood and sustainably harvested produce from the surrounding area
 
All dietary requirements can be catered for, we will feast on gourmet breakfast/ brunch and delicious three course dinners. The culinary experience is framed by spectactular views over Koggala lake

Anyone who wants to embrace slowing down, unwinding and unplugging from the demands of regular life.
 

All of our activities including the yoga practices are optional, so you have the choice to make this your own yogi experience!

Our daily yoga practice will cater to all levels. There is no requirement to have a regular or advanced yoga practice. All practices are optional.

For those who want to dive deeper into their personal practice, this is a perfect opportunity to cultivate consistency and reap the benefits that yoga offers, under the guidance of SlowLane founders Phoebe and Iestyn.

This retreat is an opportunity to meet like minded people and make lifelong friends. Come alone or bring a friend, family member or partner. Solo, double and share rooms available.
 

The Yoga

We will practice daily together in the yoga shala overlooking the lake, surrounded by Frangipani trees immersed in nature. 
 
Every morning we will practice Vinyasa (flow) yoga to open the day with an energising yet grounding practice.
 
Every evening we will practice a Yin & restore style class with soothing longer holds to help set us up for a restful night’s sleep.
 
Subtle practices such as pranayam ( breathwork) and meditation will be included in both classes each day.
 
Our yoga will cater to all levels- there is no requirement to have a regular or advanced yoga practice. All practices are optional.

Accommodation

Stay in luxury boutique accomodation commisioned to award winning architects. Each suite allows for a sense of intimacy with nature while affording unparreled views of Koggala lake. Accommodation options are spread throughout the undulating landscape, each with its own character and style. You can choose from:
  • The tree houses touch lightly on the steep hillside, floating over the view
  • The cottages respect and evoke the vernacular to combine with modern design philosophies
  • The garden suites cascade down the gentle landscape, a modern and minimalist statement nestled in the terrain
  • The Villa sits on a hillside, offering views that stretch across the lake and a private pool with sun loungers to relax

In total our retreat has thirteen rooms for accommodation – some rooms offer King beds and other rooms offer Twin beds

FAQs

What time does the retreat start and finish?

Our retreat starts at 5pm Thursday 5th March and finishes at 11am Wednesday 11th March (2026). If your flight / transfer time clashes with these times please let us know in advance.

Can I bring my kids?
Sorry, this one is for adults only. Teenagers over 16 are welcome but must pay the adult price.
Can I travel solo?

Absolutely, we have lots of solo yogis joining us, we have option of solo rooms ( king bed) or we can pair you up with another yogi in a shared room ( 2 x single beds per room )

How much yoga can I expect on this retreat?

As much or as little as you like. We will be offering 2 x daily yoga practices.

Our daily yoga practice will cater to all levels. There is no requirement to have a regular or advanced yoga practice. All practices are optional.

Terms, Conditions and Exclusions

  • Currency – all pricing is in Australian Dollars (AUD)
  • Deposit – bookings require a non refundable deposit of $1000 AUD
  • Balance – the balance in must be paid to us by paypal or direct bank transfer on or before January 31st 2026
  • Monthly payment plan – please write to us to request this [email protected] (all monies under payment plans must be paid on or before January 31st 2026)
  • All payments are non refundable
  • If you personally are unwell or unable to travel, there is no refund (you must get travel insurance)
  • If you are restricted from travelling for any reason – including COVID or any other government related restrictions – there is no refund (you must get travel insurance)
  • If you wish to transfer your booking to another person this is possible but you must inform us in writing at least two weeks ahead of the retreat start date
  • We require that you have travel insurance and provide us with your certificate of currency from your insurance provider one month before the retreat commences. (Check that insurance covers you for cancellation if you are unwell or unable to travel, including COVID travel insurance)

The fees you pay SlowLane Yoga do not include:

  • Travel to the venue (international airfares, local transfers)
  • Travel Insurance / COVID Travel Insurance
  • Alcohol and additional beverages at the retreat
  • Any meals/snacks outside of those listed
