The Food

If you haven’t experienced Balinese food before you are in for a real treat.

The traditional cuisine of Bali is a celebration of the abundance provided by the unique geography and climate of mother Bali – fresh vegetables from the volcanic soils, rice from the surrounding paddy field, coconuts that thrive in the tropical climate, the spices from local ginger, tumeric, chillies and lemongrass. Additionally, the varied cuisine is a fusion of all the influences on the history of this island – Hindu and Indian, Chinese and of course Indonesian.

We will feast on sustainable, vegetarian organic and healthy produce. Dishes will be shared in a family style setting.

You Let us know any dietary requirements beforehand and we can cater to your needs.

Alcoholic drinks are not included in your retreat package but can be purchased onsite.

The Yoga

If you have not practiced before in a tropical climate, you might be amazed by how good it feels! The warmth and humidify do wonders to help open the body and the tranquil surroundings provide a calm and grounding environment for your practice.

We will practice each day in the spacious on site Yoga Shala, made from natural materials, surrounded by the jungle and large bamboo trees. If it rains you will hear the water cascades behind the shala flowing into the river.

Every morning we will practice Vinyasa (flow) to open the day with an energising yet grounding practice. Every evening we will practice a Yin and/or Restorative class with soothing longer holds to help set us up for a restful night. Subtle practices such as pranayama (breathwork) and meditation will be included in both classes each day.

Our yoga will cater to all levels – there is no requirement to have a regular or advanced yoga practice. All practices are optional.

Why We Chose Bali / Ubud / Basundari

Bali holds a very special place for us. We have been fortunate enough to travel to the Island of Bali and we wanted to share this magical land with you.

Something happens here when you practice yoga, the body seems more receptive, the mind more easily focussed, the experience more in congruence with the surrounds.

The culture of the Balinese people and traditions are truly unique. In Balinese hinduism and culture, there is a concept called “Tridatu”. Tridatu serves as a guiding principle in Balinese spirituality, emphasizing the importance of balance and harmony in all aspects of life. It reminds the Balinese people of the interconnectedness of existence, encouraging them to nurture equilibrium within themselves and their surroundings. This is visible every day in Ubud and manifests in so many ways : the kindness of a stranger, the sacrifice of time made to create daily offerings, the temperament on display in traffic. There is much we can learn!

Basundari its set amongst the jungle in the heart of mother nature and offers opportunity for a truly transformative experience – where the SlowLane meets the jungle of Mother Bali.
